I am the door... A biblical view of sects and denominations

Definition of sect

· 1: a dissenting or schismatic religious body

· 2: a religious denomination

denomination - a recognized, independent [self-directed, self-sufficient, self-governing, autonomous] branch of the Christian Church.

What the apostle Paul taught regarding sects/denominations:

1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

1 Timothy 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

1 Timothy 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

"A branch cannot be independent of the vine... yet keep in mind that with there being a true vine; there in turn are false vines and branches that grow off those false vines."

Matthew 7:15, 19-23

15 ¶ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Caught in the midst…

It is too easy to be caught in the midst of everything we do that we don’t actually take time to love God; to commune with God. 2 Timothy...
